Bishop's Castle Motorcycle Ride

Last Saturday I went on an all day motorcycle ride with a group of friends down to Bishop's Castle in Southern Colorado.  This 350 mile ride is something we have done for the past three years.  I tried to take Kate with me but Erin said I need to get some better bungy cords before the baby is allowed on the motorcycle. 

Bishop's Castle is one of the most unique structures you will ever visit.  Jim Bishop has been building this castle in the mountains, by himself, since 1969...and is still going strong.  The castle is his primary residence and is open to the public to tour, free of charge.  Bishop gets money from donations to continue this huge project.

Now while I really enjoy visiting this place, it's not really a place for small children.  Let's just say that safety isn't Bishop's first concern when he is building.  The staircases going up the towers are very narrow and they are missing handrails.  But that's not the scary part.  As you are climbing to the top of the 60 foot tower, you pass windows that are just open, no bars or glass and they're big enough for me to fall through (I'm not exactly small these days.)  Erin refuses to climb to the top because she fears for her life.
